Anyone 12 years old or older may become a USSF certified
referee. Many young referees who get their start with the Casper Soccer
Club will continue on to state and national referee status. Many adults
take up reffing to help the sport and for the enjoyment of the game.
Current Casper referees have worked USYS Regional and National
Championship Tournaments, High School Matches, and Collegiate Matches.
The Casper Soccer Club requires all referees to hold a USSF Grade 9 or
higher certification. The Grade 9 Referee is the first step which
allows a referee to work recreational games and to assist competitive
games. Young referees are typically assigned the very youngest age
groups to gain experience and learn the art of reffing. The Grade 8
referee may referee recreational and competitive games.
For the young referee, working the recreational games can be a great
paying job. For the more experienced referee, Wyoming State League and
Soccer Tournaments provide more of a challenge and better pay as well.
Many coaches, Parents, and Players work as referees at the tournaments
they attend for the enjoyment of the experience and to help pay for
travelling expenses.
